To promote better use of public space, and to bring people together. G.E.A.R. gives people, alone in public space a special experience by showing them what can be done with an empty spot on a busy route. In this guerilla, passers-by can even choose which activity they want: Games(G)? Education(E)? Art(A)? Recreation(R)? But together with others, because only then will you experience the meeting opportunities of these empty places. The clip presents this activity that engaged a wide range of audiences in a playful manner as it was a mystery event. Play brings people together.
A Guerilla is a form of what is called Tactical Urbanism. This is a collective term for cheap, temporary changes in the built (usually urban) environment with the aim of contributing to the improvement of districts, neighbourhoods and other meeting places. Strengthening social cohesion and cooperation between citizens, public-private parties, non-profit organizations and other interested parties is often the goal. Guerillas are often simpler, faster and cheaper than business as usual placemaking.
